Greenland, Software Engineer

Can you explain your current role?

My current role is a Software Engineer on the Stability Team. Lately I have been doing a lot of design and analysis work to figure out how we can improve our current tech stack, this involves prototyping, researching software engineering best practices and discussing with other members of my squad the best approach to solutions. Other duties have been working on tickets and participating in scrum ceremony meetings.

Can you explain the interview process?

The interview process was quite streamline, all the meeting times were put into my calendar and all I had to do was show up.

What were your thoughts when you first stepped out of the lift and into the Tiimely office?

I really liked the modern office outfitting and how much natural light comes in.

What was your first impression of Tiimely?

My first impression of Tiimely was the people there and how welcoming and friendly everyone was. My team in particular welcomed me in with open arms and always made time to answer my questions and made sure I felt like I was part of the team.

Is Adelaide your hometown, and what do you enjoy about working in the city?

Adelaide is my hometown! I l really enjoy how walkable Adelaide is and the range of lunch options available. Also, I really enjoy participating in the Corporate Cup which is a yearly competition amongst office workers in the city to run along the Torrens river.

What do you find most rewarding about your role?

At Tiimely there’s real immediate impact from the work you do and seeing that is really rewarding.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to get into a similar role?

Have a good depth and breadth of software engineering knowledge. It’s good to specialise in one area like backend but also be able to understand and help with other areas of the tech stack. Also brush up on interviewing skills.

What’s something you wish someone told you before you entered the workforce?

Finding a company that is a good culture fit for you is super important. You absolutely do not want to dread going into work.

What are you reading or listening to right now?

I’ve been listening to a lot of Joji, Daniel Caesar and Playboi Carti.

What hobby are you into right now?

I like to run. I also enjoy bouldering, swimming, and losing every week at volleyball.
